Manteca garages that open west take direct afternoon sun through an open door for months at a stretch, and the coat nearest the threshold gets the worst of it. Standard epoxy clears amber under that kind of exposure. It does not fail structurally, it just stops matching itself: the strip inside the door line goes warm while the back of the bay stays where it started, and the customer notices the line long before they notice anything else.
Polyaspartic chemistry does not do that. It holds its color under ultraviolet, which is the entire reason it sits on this shelf next to the epoxy clears rather than instead of them. On a floor that never sees daylight, a clear epoxy is a perfectly good answer and usually a cheaper one. On a bay with the door open half the day, the topcoat choice is the difference between a floor that ages and a floor that yellows.

Speed is a schedule advantage, never a reason to hurry the coat.

Ratios, and what heat does to them.
Polyaspartic is a two-part material and the ratio is not a suggestion. Off-ratio material does not simply cure weaker, it can stay soft in patches, and a soft patch under a hot tire is a permanent print in the finish. Mix full units by the manufacturer’s ratio rather than splitting kits by eye, and mix them properly: the sides and the bottom of the bucket hold unmixed resin that ends up as a dull streak on the floor.
Then there is the Valley in summer. Heat shortens an already short working window, and the mixed material warms itself while it sits. A batch that behaves on a mild morning can skin over before you finish spreading it on a 100-degree afternoon. Crews who run these systems well keep the batches small, keep a second person moving material out of the bucket, and start before the slab warms up rather than after.
None of that is a reason to avoid the material. It is a reason to plan the day around it, which is exactly the conversation we have on the phone before an order goes out.
when to skip it
Plenty of Manteca floors do not need it.
A supply house that recommends the most expensive topcoat on every job is selling, not advising. Interior rooms with no daylight, back-of-house storage, a shop bay under a roof with no direct sun, all of these are fine under a clear epoxy, and a clear epoxy gives you a longer working window and a more forgiving day.
The honest split is exposure plus schedule. If the floor sees real ultraviolet, or the customer needs it back fast, polyaspartic pays for itself. If it sees neither, you are buying speed you do not need and a short pot life you now have to manage. We stock both clears for exactly that reason, and we will tell you when the cheaper one is the right one.
Some crews also run a hybrid: an epoxy build coat for body and millage, then a polyaspartic only as the wear layer. That gets you UV stability on top without asking the fast material to do the structural work. Give us the job and we will spec which of those three shapes fits it.
The other question worth asking before you order is what is already on the slab. A polyaspartic will often go over a cured epoxy floor, but only with honest prep and an adhesion check first, because a clear rolled over a contaminated or glossy surface will release in sheets rather than fail gracefully. Tell us what is down now, how old it is, and whether anything has been mopped onto it, and we will tell you whether you are looking at a recoat or a grind.
