A one-day garage floor: the polyaspartic workflow
One-day floors are real, and they are good money, but only if the workflow is dialed in. Polyaspartic moves fast, and that cuts both ways.
A polyaspartic system is what lets a crew walk onto a garage in the morning and hand back a finished floor that afternoon. Fast cure, UV stable, tough. The chemistry is on your side. The clock is not, which is why the sequence has to be tight.
Respect the pot life
This is the part that catches people coming off epoxy. Polyaspartic sets fast, so you mix in batches you can actually lay down in time. Mix too much and you will be peeling a kicked batch out of a bucket while your window closes.
Speed is only an advantage if you respect the pot life.
The sequence
- Grind the slab to a clean profile, because the bond starts here, not at the coating
- Vacuum and detail; any dust you leave becomes a defect
- Cut in and roll the base coat, working in sections you can broadcast
- Broadcast flake or color to refusal while the coat is wet
- Scrape and prep once it cures enough to walk
- Topcoat with the UV-stable clear and you are done
Where it goes wrong
Almost every one-day failure is prep or timing. A slab that was not profiled right will not hold the coat no matter how good the resin is. A batch mixed too big will set before it is down. Neither is the product’s fault, and both are avoidable once you have run the system a few times.
If you are setting up to offer one-day floors, call the bench and tell us your crew size and your typical garage. We will help you spec the stack and the quantities so your first one goes down clean.
