Every polyaspartic data sheet carries a short list of numbers that matter more than the marketing on the front of the can. Minimum and maximum application temperature. Slab temperature against the dew point. The relative humidity range. Pot life and recoat time, each at a stated temperature. Read those first, and read them for the day you are actually coating, with the conditions you will have in that garage.
Humidity is the line crews underrate. Some polyaspartics react with moisture in the air, so a damp morning can shorten your working time and cloud the finish. A hot afternoon shortens it from the other direction. Neither is a reason to cancel the job. Both are reasons to shrink the batches and move the start time, and if a line on the sheet is unclear we will read it with you over the phone. Finished examples are in the catalog.

Pot life on polyaspartic is short, and it gets shorter as the garage warms up. Mixing one big batch to save trips is how material kicks in the bucket, or worse, starts to set on the floor while the roller is still moving. The fix is smaller batches mixed more often, each sized to what the crew can put down comfortably before the product thickens.
It also takes more hands than a solo epoxy topcoat. Most crews run it as a pair: one person mixes and pours ribbons, the other cuts in the edges and rolls the field, and both keep a wet edge moving across the room. Swapping roles halfway through is where lap marks tend to show up.
Over quartz, over flake, and around the pool.
Polyaspartic is a common topcoat over broadcast systems. On a flake garage it locks the chips down after the scrape and vacuum, and its clarity lets the blend show through. On a quartz broadcast it seals the texture while leaving grip underfoot, which is why it turns up on pool decks and wet walkways where slip resistance matters.
The broadcast underneath decides how much topcoat you need. A full flake floor scraped properly takes one amount. A textured quartz deck soaks product into every valley and takes more. Sometimes an epoxy topcoat is the honest answer.
Polyaspartic is a great product, and it is still the wrong call on some jobs. A newer crew still learning to manage a wet edge may do better with an epoxy topcoat that gives more working time, accepting that the job runs longer. A floor with no schedule pressure at all gains very little from the speed.
Look at the room as well as the calendar. A long, narrow garage with one door gives the roll team a clean path out, while a cluttered shop full of columns, drains and cabinet bases slows every pass and eats into the working time. If the space fights the product, the extra hours an epoxy topcoat buys you can be the difference between a floor you are proud of and a patch job you explain to the customer the following week.
Our advice on the phone follows the job, even when that means a slower product. We carry both because both earn their shelf space, and a clean floor finished over two days beats a fight with a fast product on day one. On many garage jobs, yes, when the crew, the conditions and the system line up. Grind, base, broadcast and topcoat can land in one stretch of work. Call the bench first with square footage, crew size and the system, and we will tell you straight whether your day works.
Why does polyaspartic set up in the bucket?
Its pot life is short, and warmth shortens it further. A large batch keeps reacting in the bucket while the crew works through the first half of the floor. Mix smaller batches more often, sized to what your team can roll out while the product still flows.
How many people does a polyaspartic topcoat take?
Plan on two for most garage floors. One person mixes and pours ribbons while the other cuts in edges and rolls the field. Keeping those roles fixed for the whole floor keeps the wet edge moving and avoids lap marks where the rhythm changed.
What should I check on the data sheet before coating?
Look for the application temperature range, slab temperature against dew point, the humidity range, and pot life and recoat time at a stated temperature. Read them for the actual conditions in the garage that day. If a line is unclear, call the bench before you mix.
